The middle two images are stills from a video (I took many). I'm tempted to share a couple!

A very lovely and fun fourth of July, full of sun induced napping, bbq chicken, two of my favorite girls and mischief with neighbors in the streets.

I hope yours was just as great!

Now to pick out a recipe for my dream birthday cake. Yes, I am making my own! I have always wanted to, but usually someone will step in and tell me that I'm not allowed. This year, I'm not letting anybody tell me otherwise!

  1. All of that looks and sounds so nice. The only reason you are baking your own cake is because that "someone stepping in" live in new york now.  I hope it makes all of your dreams come true.

  3. funny, i always make my own birthday cake.
it used to be just for fun, but since i found out last year that i am a celiac, it's come in handy that i have a bit of practice, because baking gluten free is challenging at first.
this year i made a brown sugar brown butter carrot cake with toasted pecans, pineapple, golden raisins + lemon cream cheese frosting...... mmmmm
also, fantastic about your move :) my sweetie and i visit friends and family in ny every summer- think we are staying put this year. perhaps you and i will have a chance to meet up in nyc for some treats at lula's sweet apothecary someday, it is my favorite.

    cheers

  6. Yum, that sounds delicious! I contemplated a carrot cake for myself but decided to make an Aunt Sassy cake instead.

I do hope that happens someday, but hopefully I'll get to see you in Portland first!
