No. 27

This had to be the most beautiful birthday I have ever had. An intimate gathering with some of my closest friends, thrown together at the very last minute by the most thoughtful ladies. My cake was almost a blunder due to hot weather, but was saved, thanks to Sarah who kept me from having a small melt down over it's minor lack of perfection. I handed a box of dishes, linens and flatware to Claire and said, "You'll know what to do with this." When I arrived at the pea patch with my cake, the table was set perfectly.

Not one thing could have been better. The setting of the pea patch was a dream, surrounded by blooming flowers and thriving vegetables, prayer flags and even a may pole. The company was perfect, and I stood at the table looking around at the beautiful faces and hearts of the women seated around me, my pretty cake, the sweet gifts and lovely details of every little thing and my spirit felt so light. I commented to somebody at some point that I was so happy I was shaking.

Thank you, dear friends for what you did to make this evening so special - and for what you do for me every day, too. I am such a lucky girl.

I think this evening could have been hinting that my new mantra will be true; Heaven in 27, heaven in 27.

Ps. Anastasia, I thought you must know that my chocolate cream puff birthday wish came true! I wished for a hot & sunny birthday. Just so happens that today was forecasted to be the hottest day of the week - and it was beautiful.

  9. Thank you, Luke! The cake picture is my favorite, too! It took a lot of helping hands to keep the breeze from blowing the candles out.

  15. That cake looks absolutely divine! I've never tried a pistachio-flavored cake before but I imagine it would taste heavenly since  pistachio-anything is usually delicious. If you by any chance still have the recipe for this cake, I would love to get my hands on it!

  16. It was pretty delicious! The recipe is from Baked NYC's cookbook Baked Explorations. It would be a lot to copy it word for word from the book, so here is a link that I think has already done that...
http://cookingbythebook.com/blog/recipes/aunt-sassy-cake-pistachio-heaven-baked/The only thing I experienced that was off was the amount of frosting the recipe makes. I didn't have enough to coat the entire cake, so I ended up making whipped cream to fill in the blanks. Despite that minor mishap, it was so tasty - you couldn't even tell.

  17. Thank you! I'm always on the lookout for new recipes to try out. I will have to give this cake a go for the next big social gathering I attend. That book looks mighty appealing too!
